Despacito was a track from the year 2017 that was released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi. It became the top streamed track worldwide within just six months. The single a mix of reggaeton, pop and rock did not just bring attention to reggaeton but it also attracted attention to Latin music in general. The Billboard Top 100 in 2015 had two tracks that were mostly in the Spanish language, while 2016 saw four. However, during the heights of the Despacito's popularity in 2017, there were 19 predominantly Spanish songs that were included in the top 100. Then in 2020 it was 41. Justin Bieber remixed Despacito 2017 with a version in two languages. Soon, other artists collaborated with Reggaeton stars like Drake and Bad Bunny with MIA (2018), Madonna and Maluma with Medellin 2019 In 2020, a few Reggaeton performers were expressing displeasure about the trend of the genre towards the mainstream. But a newer generation such as Rauw Alejandro was determined to maintain the development. The musician incorporated electronic dance music and others into his music.
